Dear Ms. Garmendiz,
I am reaching out to apply for the Colin Powell Fellowship in Leadership and Public Service. I became aware of this opportunity through my English professor. I have worked as a tutor and a receptionist in a clinic. As these jobs entail a level of understanding and composure, I am confident that my ability to collaborate with the people around me makes me an ideal fit for this position.
In the last three years, I have been a private English tutor for a student in elementary school. In collaboration with the student’s parents, I have developed approaches that appeal to the student’s short attention span to help him better analyze the material and am proud to report that he has shown improvements in his exam scores! For example, I integrate short memory games into every break that we have. This helps ensure that he is actually retaining the information that he is being exposed to. I have also interned at Safe Health Medical Care PLLC. over the summer break of 2023. I have been involved in fixing appointments, upkeeping patient medical information, sorting paperwork, and communicating with my peers.
I am naturally inclined to a workforce that relies on teamwork in order to better the conditions of the people around them. I understand that I must prioritize the needs of others, as the main goal is that they benefit from our work. I have always considered being more involved in my community. This internship will allow me the opportunity to materialize that concept. More importantly, this fellowship is an opportunity to enhance my interpersonal skills and work with people that I care about.
I am confident that my experiences will be a valuable asset to your cause. I would be thrilled to receive the opportunity to be a part of the cause to better involve underserved communities in the conversation. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Warm Regards,
Farhat Faiz
